Dutch yacht builder Heesen has appointed Captain Mike Rouse as Strategic Advisor, bringing in a maritime professional with extensive operational and technical experience in the superyacht sector.
Rouse has spent decades as a professional captain and has also been involved in a number of complex newbuild and major refit projects in Northern Europe. He has additionally worked as an owner’s representative, giving him broad experience across yacht operations, construction and project oversight.
In his new role, Rouse will work with Heesen’s board and technical departments on product development, quality standards and the evaluation of new technologies. The company said his appointment is intended to strengthen the integration of operational experience into the design and engineering process.
“Bringing Mike into the organisation marks a progressive step in our pursuit of excellence,” said Heesen CEO Jeroen van der Meer.
“His operational insight, combined with our engineering capability, enhances our ability to deliver yachts that are technologically advanced and perfectly aligned with the realities of contemporary yachting. His contribution will support our technical teams as we evolve our product range and enter a new chapter of innovation.”
According to Heesen, Rouse’s involvement will focus in part on incorporating operational considerations earlier in the design phase, including technical layout, crew workflow and long-range operational capability. His remit will also include identifying partnerships with suppliers for onboard systems.
Rouse will also advise Heesen’s in-house luxury interior division, with a focus on balancing design ambitions with practical maritime requirements and durability.
“In superyacht construction, the difference between a good yacht and a great one often emerges only after thousands of miles underway,” Rouse said.
“My goal is to ensure those operational nuances are embedded from day one. I look forward to working with the engineering teams to champion practical innovation and uphold Heesen’s reputation for uncompromising Northern European quality.”
