The Finnish company Wärtsilä is selling its Automation, Navigation and Control System (ANCS) business unit.
According to a statement from the publicly listed company, the Swedish investment firm Solix Group will acquire Wärtsilä’s ANCS segment. The transaction is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025, “subject to approvals.”
ANCS provides hardware and software technologies for ship navigation and automation. Its solutions include integrated navigation and automation systems, advanced sensors for enhanced safety and situational awareness, and dynamic positioning systems that enable precise vessel positioning. Wärtsilä acquired ANCS in 2015 as part of Marine Systems International. In 2023, ANCS generated an annual revenue of nearly €200 million.
Wärtsilä’s divestments
In recent years, Wärtsilä has divested several segments and business units. For instance, its cargo tank measurement business was sold to Denmark. A propeller foundry in Spain and several German subsidiaries were also divested, including Euroatlas, Funa (Emden), Jovyatlas, and Elac Nautik (Kiel). All these businesses had entered Wärtsilä’s portfolio through the L-3 acquisition.
Tamara de Gruyter, President of Portfolio Business and Executive Vice President at Wärtsilä, commented on the transaction:
“Having worked with Solix on some of our previous divestments, I am confident that ANCS will have a solid owner and a great environment to continue its independent success. This will benefit ANCS’s customers, partners, and highly skilled employees.”
