The Water Revolution Foundation has added NC Marmi’s Lightweight Marble 10+5 to its Hub of Verified Solutions following an independent assessment of its environmental performance.
The verification confirms that the lightweight material offers measurable environmental benefits compared with conventional solid marble.
Designed for yacht interiors, Lightweight Marble 10+5 combines a 5 mm natural marble surface with a 10 mm aluminium honeycomb core, a construction method derived from aerospace engineering. According to the foundation, the panel is up to 70% lighter than a traditional marble slab while maintaining the structural performance required for marine applications.
The life-cycle assessment was conducted by consultancy 2B under the supervision of the Water Revolution Foundation and independently peer reviewed by TETS Institute, a spin-off of the University of Genoa. The solution was evaluated against conventional solid marble used in yacht construction.
Besides the weight reduction, the material has been verified for use under demanding marine conditions, including vibration, varying loads and temperature changes. NC Marmi says the panels are manufactured using high-performance structural adhesives to ensure long-term durability. For yachts, lower material weight can contribute to reduced fuel consumption and emissions over a vessel’s lifetime.
