Work on the superyacht “Albatross” is nearing completion at the Damen Yachting shipyard in Vlissingen.
Originally built by Delta Marine, the yacht has been extensively overhauled and redesigned over the course of more than two years. Now she has water under her keel again for final outfitting and acceptance.
The decision to overhaul the ship instead of commissioning a new build was a “courageous and demanding” choice from the shipyard’s point of view. The work included lengthening the yacht by 7 m to a total of 72.2 m – the shipyard workers initially removed 10 m and added 17 m.
As part of the redesign of the layout, both inside and out, a “beach club” with wellness center, a large outdoor pool, a winter garden and larger outdoor seating areas were also installed. The interior was almost completely refurbished according to a design by London-based interior design firm Harrison Eidsgaard. The refit itself was carried out by Amels Refit.

“The refit of ‘Albatross’ in collaboration with everyone involved, including the owner’s team, Harrison Eidsgaard and our refit specialists at Amels, has been an incredible journey,” said Michael Coens, Head of Refit & Services at Damen Yachting. “The scale and scope of this refit was a team effort. We reconfigured the layout and carried out major technical revisions. Her transformation is stunning. You can still see hints of her original DNA, which has been reshaped and reworked to meet the owners’ future requirements.”
The biggest challenge was to lengthen the hull while ensuring the yacht’s stability. To achieve this, the exhaust systems were raised due to the increased weight and numerous systems were redesigned. It was a “joint effort”, utilizing the extensive experience of Damen Yachting’s engineers and designers to ensure that the boat performs flawlessly and meets the owner’s expectations.
