Ares Yachts completes sea trials of 62m ketch “Simena”

Schaffran

The Antalya-based shipyard Ares Yachts has successfully completed sea trials of its first superyacht over 60 metres in length.

The 62-metre, classically inspired ketch-rigged sailing yacht demonstrated impressive performance at sea: under power, “Simena” reached a top speed of 14 knots and showed remarkable agility and balance under sail.

“This is a truly proud moment for our entire team,” says Piraye Sahinkaya Orhun, Yacht Projects Director at Ares Yachts. “‘Simena‘ exceeded our expectations during the trials, showing remarkable speed, maneuverability, and silence under hybrid and sail propulsion. She embodies everything we set out to achieve — performance, comfort, and timeless elegance.”

Built in a steel-carbon composite and designed to RINA Charter Class C standards, “Simena” is a true bluewater yacht – capable, efficient, and luxurious. Her exterior lines, by Taka Yacht Design, combine classic ketch proportions with modern hydrodynamics, while Design Unlimited has created an interior that harmoniously blends tradition and innovation.

Laid teak decks and varnished sipo mahogany exterior joinery recall the golden age of sailing, while contemporary comforts are subtly integrated throughout. The yacht features Doyle Stratis sails, B&G instruments, and Miele appliances. At 62 metres, “Simena” ranks among the 25 largest sailing yachts in the world. She accommodates up to 12 guests and nine crew members, with the owner’s suite prominently positioned forward on the main deck.

Hybrid propulsion for silent cruising

Power is provided by a hybrid propulsion system that allows silent operation at speeds of up to 6 knots. In addition, an 882 kW (1,183 hp) diesel engine supplements the two 220 kW electric motors, enabling a top speed of 14.5 knots and a range of around 4,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 11 knots.

Inside, Ares Yachts has created an atmosphere of understated elegance. Walnut cabinetry, textured leathers and fabrics, and antiqued brass accents add depth and warmth. Bathrooms feature marbles such as Calacatta Oro and Patagonia White, while modern amenities like TV lifts are discreetly integrated to preserve the yacht’s timeless aesthetic.

“Simena” is exclusively available for sale through Northrop & Johnson.
