RMK Yachts unveils 50m explorer concept “Petra”

The Turkish shipyard RMK Yachts has introduced a new 50m explorer yacht concept developed in collaboration with Milan-based design studio Hot Lab. The project, named “Petra”, is conceived as a technically capable, long-range platform with multiple configuration options.

At its core, “Petra” is designed as an ocean-going explorer yacht with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. The concept is designed for a range of approximately 4,000 nautical miles and a maximum speed of 16 knots, targeting extended cruising and transoceanic passages.

A central feature is the platform-based approach, with three variants – “Aura”, “Core” and “Infinite” – built on the same technical foundation but tailored to different operational profiles. While the underlying naval architecture remains consistent, the configurations differ in layout, onboard functionality and mission focus.

The “Infinite” version represents the most technically advanced and exploration-oriented configuration. It is specified with ice-class notation, enabling operations in ice-prone and high-latitude regions, and offers an optional hybrid propulsion system aimed at improving efficiency and operational flexibility. The yacht is further equipped with a helideck to support logistics and remote access.

“Petra” is designed to carry substantial tenders and mission equipment. A large garage, combined with dedicated crane capacity, allows for the launch and recovery of tenders and watercraft. Fold-down bulwarks expand the usable deck area and convert the aft section into a beach club once equipment has been deployed.

Additional features of the “Infinite” configuration include extensive storage for water sports and expedition equipment, underlining the vessel’s capability for extended operations in remote areas with limited infrastructure.

The “Aura” and “Core” variants place greater emphasis on accommodation and onboard living but retain the same structural design, range and overall performance characteristics. Across all versions, the concept focuses on endurance, storage capacity and operational flexibility, positioning Petra as a multi-role explorer platform.

With “Petra”, RMK Yachts targets the growing market for technically capable explorer yachts that combine long-range performance with flexible configurations and optional hybridisation.
