The Bremen-based shipbuilding group Lürssen has opened a new shipyard hall at its Schacht-Audorf site. Further investment is set to follow, as has now been announced.
Lürssen has officially opened the new Hall 3 for new yacht construction at its Rendsburg-Nord site in Schacht-Audorf. At the opening ceremony, the family that owns the company also announced a decision that goes beyond the new hall: “Over the next two years, Lürssen will invest around €50 million in its Rendsburg sites.” According to a statement, this is expected to create 130 new jobs.
In addition to the newly opened Hall 3, the programme includes the roofing of a dock, the comprehensive overhaul of one of the floating docks, a new canteen for staff, and the expansion of the entire infrastructure at the Rendsburg-North site in Schacht-Audorf and the Rendsburg-South site. Peter Lürßen announced this in his speech to guests and staff.
According to the company, the new Hall 3 is “one of the most modern shipbuilding halls in the region” and is tailored to the specific requirements of new yacht construction. At the Rendsburg site on the Kiel Canal, yachts between 55 m and 110 m in length are built. The site also carries out refits and maintenance work.
“Rendsburg is a key part of our shipyard group – and is set to remain so for decades to come. Our order books are full until 2033, and this investment lays the foundations for yachts to continue to be built here even beyond that,” said the shipyard director.
District Administrator Ingo Sander and the Mayor of Rendsburg, Janet Sönnichsen, attended the commissioning ceremony at the shipyard site, accompanied by representatives from the regional business community and the IG Metall trade union. In his speech, District Administrator Sander said: “130 new industrial jobs are a strong signal for our region. Statistically, every industrial job secures around two and a half further jobs with suppliers and service providers. The investment made here will have an impact far beyond the shipyard grounds.”
