Lürssen completes sea trials of 114-metre superyacht “Cosmos”

Schaffran

Lürssen launched the “Cosmos” in August. The 114.20 m superyacht has now successfully completed her sea trials.

According to Lürssen, at 114.20 m she is one of the largest yachts built by the shipyard this year. Both the exterior and interior design were created by Marc Newson.

“This project is something very special and also coincides with our 150th anniversary,” says Peter Lürssen on the occasion of the launch this summer. “As a shipyard for bespoke yachts, no two ships are the same, but there are some that have left an indelible mark on our history – the ‘Cosmos’ is undoubtedly one of them.”

One of the most striking features of the “Cosmos” is the owner’s large, glass-enclosed private study with a sky terrace. The study itself posed a complex engineering challenge. Lürssen says it developed a bespoke solution to bend large, thick panes of glass flawlessly and with crystal-clear transparency, enabling uninterrupted 360-degree panoramic views from the vantage point on deck. The adjoining sky terrace offers the owner a private outdoor area directly connected to the study.

The glass theme continues on the cabin deck, where a continuous band of glazing wraps around the entire upper level, providing uninterrupted views. Forward, beneath the helipad, is a glass observation lounge, while at the stern an open balcony with a glass balustrade overlooks the spacious main deck.

Cosmos has ice class and a fuel cell

The open aft deck combines functionality and comfort: in the centre is a combination swimming pool and Jacuzzi, flanked by spacious seating areas. Behind it is a dry dock that uses a slide mechanism to lower the largest accompanying boat into the water and bring it back on board.

Designed for long-distance travel and remote regions, the Cosmos extends over six decks and is reinforced to Ice Class 1D, enabling safe operation in light ice conditions. This gives the owner the option of exploring all five major oceans and all seven continents.

According to the yard, the installation of a methanol fuel cell system has also been agreed in line with the owner’s commitment to innovation. The system converts methanol into hydrogen, which is then used to generate electricity – a technologically demanding and complex process.

Delivery to the owner is scheduled for 2026.
