The Neptun shipyard in Rostock is building the 120 m long Kasko for an Abeking & Rasmussen yacht project. The order shortly before the end of the year prevents the impending standstill[ds_preview].
With the delivery of two river cruise ships to the US customer Viking River Cruises, Neptun Werft had already completed its last two newbuilding orders in March. After that, only engine room sections for Meyer Werft in Papenburg were left in the order book – but the Group’s sister company is also suffering from the crisis in the cruise industry.
Now the hull order for a 120 m yacht from Abeking & Rasmussen closes an otherwise imminent gap in capacity utilization in the coming year. The hull is to be welded together in Rostock by 2023, with completion and outfitting reportedly taking place at A&R in Lemwerder.
Unfortunately, further information such as the start of construction, client, design, flag and technical details could not be disclosed due to the agreed confidentiality in the yacht business. This cooperation with A&R is independent of Meyer Werft’s planned entry into the construction of mega yachts, the statement continues.
Neptun Werft had already taken a major step towards securing jobs in July. As a partner of Lürssen Werft, the shipbuilding company is taking on important tasks in the design and construction of two new naval tankers. “In addition, there are a total of seven engine room modules for the Meyer Group shipyards,” says Lars-Gunar Klasen, Operations Manager at Neptun Werft.
