On 15 May 2025, the third edition of the Business Leaders Event took place in Lerici, Italy, hosted by Sanlorenzo and the Water Revolution Foundation.

It brought together CEOs from 60 of the most influential companies in the superyacht sector to align on a shared sustainability vision. At the heart of the discussions stood the Roadmap 2050 — a comprehensive, science-based strategy to achieve net-zero emissions across the entire yacht lifecycle by mid-century.

Reduce, Remove, and Restore

This initiative marks a pivotal moment for the industry. The Roadmap 2050 is structured around the principles of Reduce, Remove, and Restore. It establishes measurable targets spanning design, construction, operation and refit, encouraging a coordinated approach that goes beyond current legal requirements. The goal is to embed sustainability into the core of the industry’s long-term development, turning climate responsibility into an operational standard rather than an optional add-on.

By gathering key decision-makers in one place, the event enabled an open and constructive dialogue about the real challenges facing the sector. There was a shared recognition that change must be collective, transparent, and informed by data. Participants agreed that reaching net-zero will require not only technical innovation, but also a cultural shift in how success is defined and measured in yachting.

The tone of the event was pragmatic but forward-looking. Rather than offering general declarations, the focus remained on implementation: how to build cleaner, refit smarter, and operate more efficiently. This clear-eyed commitment to progress was widely regarded as one of the most meaningful outcomes of the gathering.

A detailed summary of the event and the Roadmap 2050 will be published shortly, offering further insight into the commitments made and the path ahead for the superyacht sector.
