The Dutch yacht builder Feadship has announced another milestone as Project 714 has emerged from the shipbuilding hall at its Aalsmeer facility.
The 79.95-metre newbuild is now ready to undergo final outfitting and sea trials. Project 714 features an exterior design by RWD, while naval architecture was developed by Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects.
Feadship equips the newbuild with hybrid propulsion
According to Feadship, the yacht showcases cutting-edge technology with a propulsion system developed through the Feadship Advanced Electrical Drive (FAED) programme. Sharing innovations with “Obsidian“, its diesel-electric hybrid power system has 4.5 times more electrical storage capacity than Feadship’s first hybrid yacht, “Savannah”.
Propulsion and steering are provided by two contra-rotating thrusters, eliminating the need for traditional drive shafts and rudders. This significantly reduces drag and enhances efficiency.
Optimised efficiency through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis has resulted in finely tuned pods and propellers that minimise vibration and maximise onboard comfort. This forward-thinking approach aligns with Feadship’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, the company states.
