The Dutch shipbuilding group Damen has unveiled a new build from the “Amels 60” yacht series to the public for the first time[ds_preview].
When the yacht was pulled out of the hall for the first time since its arrival at the shipyard in Vlissingen last summer, there were already a few onlookers on site. It is the first “appearance” of the new series before the official launch and delivery, which is planned for “spring”, as Damen has now confirmed.

Damen Yachting’s Managing Director, Rose Damen, said: “A new era has dawned for our Amels Limited Editions. The proven Amels platform and pedigree that our owners have come to expect – shaped for the future.”
The Amels 6001 is equipped with hybrid power and propulsion technology. The 60-metre-long newbuild has a measurement of 830 GT and should be able to travel at speeds of up to 15.5 knots. The Dutch company has been marketing the project since 2019. According to Damen, five yachts in the series have already been sold.
Up to a speed of 7 knots, it should be possible to dispense with the main engines; according to Damen, propulsion will only be provided by the electric hybrid drive motors. Both the main engines and the generators work with selective catalytic reduction (SCR), whose filters are designed to reduce harmful NOx emissions by 70% at full range (4,500 nm).
Batteries are designed to absorb fluctuations in demand, for example during peak loads from the air conditioning system, the galley or the bow thruster.
