The Dutch shipyard Amels and Damen Yachting has unveiled the recently launched Custom Amels 78 yacht project in Vlissingen. The vessel will now spend the next few weeks at the shipyard in Vlissingen City undergoing a series of sea trials.
The move out of the hall marks [ds_preview]another important milestone on the way to building the 78-meter “Full Custom Amels”, designed by Espen Øino. It follows the first swim up, which took place earlier this year at a private event attended by the owner’s team, the designers involved in the project and the team from Amels and Damen Yachting.
Daan Langezaal, Project Manager at Amels and Damen Yachting, explains that when the yacht is delivered in 2022, her 2,885 GT will make her the largest superyacht Amels has built to date. “We are now looking forward to the next phase and getting the vessel out on the water for sea trials.”
The vessel can accommodate 14 guests and 26 crew plus captain. The interior design is by Zuretti Interior Design, while the exterior design and general layout are by Espen Øino. This is the first time that the designer has worked with Amels. Damen Yachting is responsible for the naval architecture. The contract for the new build was signed at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2017.
However, the Dutch will soon set the record for the largest Amels yacht again themselves. In September 2020, the shipyard announced a 120-metre mega yacht based on a design by Espen Øino for an unnamed owner. With the “Signature” project, which is classified by Lloyd’s Register, Amels is moving up into the world’s largest mega yachts and into the league of industry leader Lürssen. Until now, only ships up to a maximum length of 82 m have been delivered. The 120 m long project is the largest yacht that Amels has ever built, the company announced. The representative of the unnamed owner is the yacht agency Imperial, which also looks after German shipyards. The new build is scheduled for delivery in 2025.
