Italian superyacht builder CRN has launched the 70-metre fully custom yacht “Project Thunderball”. Developed in collaboration with Vripack and Nauta Design, the vessel is scheduled for delivery this summer.
CRN has launched the 70-metre superyacht “Project Thunderball” at its shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The yacht was developed as a fully bespoke project for an international owner and was unveiled during a private ceremony attended by the owner’s family.
The project was realised in collaboration with the Dutch design studio Vripack and the Italian firm Nauta Design. Vripack was responsible for the exterior styling, general arrangement and preliminary naval architecture, while Nauta Design developed the interior design and exterior guest areas.
“Project Thunderball” features a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure. The yacht measures 70 metres in length with a beam of 11 metres and has a gross tonnage of approximately 1,100 GT. Accommodation is provided for up to 12 guests in an owner’s suite and five VIP cabins, while nine crew cabins accommodate a crew of 15.
The design is characterised by a long, elegant profile, a pronounced bow and lines inspired by sailing yachts. Particular attention was paid to creating a seamless connection between interior and exterior spaces. Large glazed surfaces are intended to maximise natural light and strengthen the visual connection to the sea.
The yacht is also equipped with an Energy Storage System (ESS), designed to reduce peak loads and enable quieter operation at anchor. According to the shipyard, the system contributes to lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions.
Following the launch, the yacht will enter the final outfitting phase before undergoing sea trials and technical testing. Delivery to the owner is scheduled for summer 2026.
“Project Thunderball” is one of several large bespoke projects currently under construction at CRN, underlining the shipyard’s continued focus on the fully custom superyacht segment.
