25 years of glass expertise for superyachts

The German specialist for high-performance marine glazing Yachtglass is marking its 25th anniversary, underlining its long-standing position as a key supplier to the global superyacht industry.

Since its foundation in 2001, the company has delivered advanced glass solutions combining safety, performance and design quality for a wide range of projects, from 27-metre explorer yachts to some of the world’s largest and most technically sophisticated superyachts.

Over the past quarter century, Yachtglass has collaborated with numerous renowned shipyards across Europe and beyond. According to CEO Silvia Buck, the anniversary reflects the company’s strong reputation within the market. “The jubilee proves our reputation within the market which we are very proud of. Our largest single delivery for a yacht consisted of nearly 600 glass panes, and the longest yacht we supplied measured around 140 meters,” she says.

The company’s roots extend back to its parent firm Hero-Glas, founded in 1970 and known for architectural and specialty glass. Continuous technological development over decades laid the groundwork for the establishment of Yachtglass as a dedicated marine glazing specialist. As demand for increasingly complex glass solutions in yacht design has grown, the company has steadily expanded its production capabilities.

In 2024, Yachtglass added a further 1,500 square metres of manufacturing space and installed two new furnaces for curved glass, enabling the production of elements with glass depths of up to 1,800 mm. The investment reflects the rising importance of large-scale and structurally demanding glazing concepts in contemporary superyacht design.

Another milestone followed in September 2025 with the foundation of OCEAN GLASS, a joint venture with Italian manufacturer Hard Glass. While both partners continue to operate independently, the platform is intended to facilitate market expansion and the development of innovative glazing solutions for emerging shipyards worldwide. “This strategic partnership merges German engineering precision with Italian design expertise. Together, we’re poised to deliver custom, high-specification glass solutions for the most sophisticated superyachts on the market. We’re particularly focused on expanding our presence in Southern Europe, Turkey, the Middle East, and Asia—regions where demand for premium European craftsmanship continues to grow,” Buck explains.

Today, Yachtglass positions itself as a comprehensive partner for newbuild and refit projects alike. Its portfolio includes curved glass, safety glass, bullet-resistant and heated glazing solutions, supported by extensive in-house finishing expertise. “With 25 years of experience in the superyacht industry, we are familiar with all requirements and support our clients as a reliable partner,” Buck adds.
