The Water Revolution Foundation has announced the appointment of Aino-Leena Grapin as Chair of the Board, effective 1 July 2025.
She succeeds Henk de Vries III, a founding member and long-standing advocate for sustainability in the yachting industry.
Grapin joined the Foundation’s Board in March 2025, following a four-year tenure as Chair of the Sustainable Yacht Design Taskforce. Her appointment is part of a planned leadership transition aimed at maintaining continuity and strengthening the Foundation’s strategic direction.
With over 25 years of leadership experience across the art, luxury, and technology sectors, Grapin brings a strong track record in guiding organisations through transformation and growth. Since 2016, she has served as CEO of Winch Design, where she oversaw the company’s shift to employee ownership in 2021 and championed sustainability as a core business principle.
“I am honoured to take on the role of Chair at the Water Revolution Foundation,” Grapin said. “Henk de Vries III has set a strong foundation for meaningful change in our industry. At Winch Design, we believe that design should be a force for good, and I look forward to working with the Foundation and its partners to advance our 2050 roadmap and protect our oceans for future generations.”
Acknowledging a founding force
The Foundation has paid tribute to Henk de Vries III, whose leadership has been central to the organisation since its inception. De Vries played a pivotal role in shaping the Foundation’s mission and has now been named Emeritus Chair in recognition of his contributions.
“More than six years ago, Vienna Eleuteri lit the spark for a cleaner future in superyachting,” said de Vries. “It has been a privilege to be part of this journey. I now pass the baton with full confidence to Aino Grapin, who brings fresh ambition and vision to the role.”
Water Revolution Foundation reaffirms its commitment to advancing sustainability
To support long-term impact and governance stability, the Foundation has adopted a phased succession plan for its founding board members. This approach enables a smooth transition of leadership while retaining institutional expertise. Further board appointments will be announced in due course.
Vice Chair Vienna Eleuteri, a founding member of the Foundation, continues in her role with an exemption from the standard term limits. Her leadership and representation in global scientific and sustainability forums remain integral to the Foundation’s mission and are subject to review every three years.
With its evolving leadership team, Water Revolution Foundation reaffirms its commitment to advancing sustainability in the yachting industry through science-led solutions, collaboration, and regenerative innovation.
