The Dutch shipbuilder Heesen has announced the sale of YN 20750, “Project Orion”. According to the company, this yacht combines luxury with sustainability.

“We greatly appreciated the smooth and efficient sales process, as well as the collaboration with Anton Foord,” commented Ruud van der Stroom, Heesen’s CCO. “From the initial discussions in January to the client’s recent visit to the shipyard, it has been a rewarding journey. Now, we eagerly anticipate the yacht’s delivery in mid-May.”

“Orion” is powered by hybrid propulsion

“Project Orion” is the third vessel in Heesen’s 50-metre Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) aluminium series, equipped with hybrid propulsion. This innovative system seamlessly combines diesel-mechanical and electrical power, significantly reducing noise and vibration while improving energy efficiency, according to Heesen.

Powered by two MTU 12V 2000 M61 (IMO III) engines, each delivering 600 kW, Project Orion achieves a top speed of 16.3 knots and boasts a transatlantic range of 3,750 nautical miles. At a cruising speed of 12 knots, fuel consumption is just 98 litres per hour, excluding hotel load.

With a shallow draught of just 2.15 metres, Orion can comfortably navigate both the waters of the Bahamas and the coastlines of the Mediterranean, supporting both individual and dual-season cruising. This versatility is a testament to Heesen’s precision engineering and the yacht’s meticulously optimised design by Van Oossanen, the shipyard says.

37 different materials on board

“Project Orion’s” exterior, designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, features a striking vertical bow and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, offering panoramic views and a refined silhouette. Complementing this, renowned interior designer Cristiano Gatto has curated a contemporary, light-filled interior. Highlights include an owner’s stateroom on the main deck, a full-beam VIP suite, and versatile stateroom configurations that make optimal use of the yacht’s 499 GT internal volume.

Additionally, all fixed furniture and finishes are crafted by skilled artisans using over 37 different materials, including high-gloss wood veneers, woven leather, and bespoke marble sourced from Italy. Artisan dark wood flooring and luxurious leather selections by Italian brand Cadorin further elevate the onboard experience.
