Until September 10, interested buyers can place bids in the auction for the confiscated superyacht “Amadea.” Proceeds from the sale are intended to benefit Ukraine.
In May 2022, US authorities seized the yacht in the Fiji Islands. Its alleged owner, Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov, had moved the vessel to the South Pacific in an attempt to evade Western sanctions and avoid its confiscation. However, at the request of the US Department of Justice, the yacht was seized and later transferred to the United States. It is currently located in San Diego, California.
The approximately $300 million “Amadea” is now available for bidding via an online auction platform. Bids can be submitted until September 10, with a minimum deposit of $10 million required.
“Amadea” built by Lürssen-Kröger
The “Amadea” was built in 2017 at the Lürssen-Kröger shipyard in Rendsburg, Germany. It measures 106 meters in length and 18.3 meters in width. With a gross tonnage of 4,402 GT, the yacht accommodates up to 16 guests in eight cabins.
The exterior was designed by Espen Øino, while the interior is the work of François Zuretti. The “Amadea,” capable of reaching speeds of up to 20 knots, is classified by Lloyd’s Register.
The auction is being conducted by National Maritime Services in collaboration with Fraser Yachts. The decision to proceed with the sale was issued by the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
