Damen Marine Components (DMC) is supplying the rudders and steering system for the 77-meter-long vessel. The yacht’s name is reflected in her shark-like profile, including the fin at the top of the superstructure and the matt black paintwork of the hull.
The complete steering system consists of two Van der Velden Atlantic rudders and two Commander piston rudders from DMC as well as hydraulic power packs and bridge consoles. According to DMC, this is an “ideal” combination for a high-performance motor yacht such as the “Black Shark”.
The Atlantic rudder system is a full spade design with an optimized profile that provides “outstanding” maneuverability with minimal drag, DMC said. It is ideal for medium to high speed vessels and contributes to the IMO Tier III compliant yacht’s sustainability goals.
“This is an excellent combination for superyacht owners looking for low maintenance steering systems that offer both excellent maneuverability and reliability. The systems have proven themselves on a variety of vessel types around the world,” says Steffen Pel, Operations Manager at Damen Marine Components.
Delivery of the “Black Shark” is scheduled for next year.
