The councillor for Enterprise, Employment and Energy, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro presented the Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui award to Gori Morey, owner of Náutica Morey, for having participated in the 40 editions of the Palma International Boat Show.

In addition, the role of Alcudiamar and the municipality of Alcúdia, which hosted the first Balearic Floating Boat Show, the precursor to the PIBS, was also recognised. The Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui Award is presented each year by the PIBS to recognise companies, organisations, or individuals who have contributed to the growth of the nautical sector.

The councillor thanked Náutica Morey and all the exhibitors for “the support they have given to the Palma International Boat Show over the years, which has made it possible for the show to become a worldwide benchmark”. The councillor recalled that “one of the pillars of the success of the PIBS is the public-private collaboration that has allowed us to grow and go from being a local fair to an international one”.

Gori Morey recalled the first editions of the boat show, “when it was just a local event and exhibitors helped each other in the assembly as a family. Little by little it has internationalised to become what it is today, one of the best shows in the Mediterranean”.

Náutica Morey is a pioneering family business in the Balearic nautical sector with more than six decades of experience. The founder, Juan Morey Gil, began importing engines in a small garage in Palma. Later, they started marketing boats and marine engines. Today, it is run by Gori Morey, who has already ensured the generational handover to his son. They have facilities of more than 5,000 m2 in the Marratxí industrial estate.

A show with a long history

During the award ceremony, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary, the role of Alcudiamar and the Alcudia Town Hall was also recognised, as they hosted the first edition of the Floating Fair in 1983, which was the forerunner of the Palma International Boat Show. Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, the conseller (Minister of the Regional Government) presented the award to Alcudiamar and the Alcúdia Town Hall.
