At the Cannes Yachting Festival 2025, MAN Engines is showcasing the next stage of its modular hybrid system. With the new 30-litre V12X engine, the company expands its hybrid portfolio to its most powerful configuration to date.
For the first time, the combination of the V12X and an electric motor with 200 or 400 kW will be presented – offering a possible system output of more than 2,000 kW. “The new system shows where the journey is heading: With the V12X Hybrid, MAN Engines remains a strong partner in the future – and opens up exciting prospects for future projects,” says Reiner Roessner, Head of Sales at MAN Engines.
Hybrid solution for large yachts and demanding applications
By integrating the V12X into the MAN Smart HYBRID Experience, the focus is on larger yachts and projects with high requirements for performance, efficiency and comfort. Initial field tests in the workboat sector have confirmed the system’s reliability and maturity. The modular hybrid solution comprises all components – from engine to batteries, power electronics and cooling – from a single source. The architecture allows hybridisation of up to 35 percent of total output as well as various operating modes, ranging from emission-free battery operation to Boost mode with full diesel and electric power.
Technological advancement with a view to sustainability
The new V12X is based on a completely redesigned engine platform with higher torque, a new injection system and optimised cooling. Despite an output of up to 1,618 kW, the engine remains compact, which simplifies integration into existing platforms. All MAN engines are also approved for use with regenerative diesel according to EN15940 and ASTM D975, enabling immediate CO₂ reductions. With the V12X as the new flagship in its hybrid portfolio, MAN Engines underlines its ambition to deliver powerful yet future-oriented solutions for the yacht and shipping industry.
The MAN Smart HYBRID Experience with the new V12X and a 400 kW electric motor will be on display at the MAN Engines stand (Palais 124) from 9 to 14 September 2025 at the Cannes Yachting Festival.
