At the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS), Dutch superyacht builder Oceanco and Lloyd’s Register (LR) signed a contract for the classification and certification of the largest yacht ever built by Oceanco.
The agreement builds on a partnership that has existed for 38 years. “This ship not only represents a new scale, but also more ambition,” said Oceanco CEO Marcel Onkenhout. The aim is to drive forward design, innovation and sustainability.
Lloyd’s Register also sees the project as an example of the combination of innovation and integrity. “Our long-standing relationship with Oceanco is based on mutual respect and the common pursuit of excellence,” emphasized Engel-Jan de Boer, Yacht Segment Director.
According to the shipyard, the yacht with a length of 130 m will set new standards in terms of capabilities, design and range. Further technical details have not yet been released.
Oceanco, founded in 1987, only changed ownership in August: Valve founder Gabe Newell took over the shares of the Omani Barwani family, who had developed the shipyard into a leading specialist in the construction of large private yachts over the past 15 years. Oceanco has specialized in the construction of custom-built mega yachts over 80 meters since 2005. The shipyard has modern facilities, including an air-conditioned hall for yachts up to 130 m and a covered dry dock for yachts up to 140 m in length. The site is located on the Noord river in Alblasserdam with direct access to the sea via inland waterways.
