With great sadness, the Dutch shipyard Heesen Yachts has announced the passing of its esteemed founder, Frans Heesen. Frans passed away peacefully on 23 April 2025 in his hometown of Oss.
He is survived by his beloved wife Petra, his children, and grandchildren. In an official statement, the shipyard paid tribute to the extraordinary life and achievements of its founder. Frans Heesen was not only the namesake, but the heart and soul of the company. His visionary leadership, remarkable courage, and exceptional ability to recognise and nurture talent laid the foundation for Heesen Yachts’ international success and continued growth.
“‘Octopussy‘ catapulted Heesen Yachts to the forefront”
The shipyard particularly highlighted his unwavering boldness, exemplified by his decision to embark on the ambitious project of building the iconic yacht “Octopussy”. Despite immense risks, including the very real possibility of jeopardising the future of the company, Frans steadfastly pursued his vision. The triumph of “Octopussy” catapulted Heesen Yachts to the forefront of the global yachting industry.
Frans dedicated his life to the shipyard, creating a working environment that felt more like a family than a business. Even after the company was sold, this strong sense of family remained, as Heesen emphasised in its statement: “Frans’ values and passion are deeply embedded in our DNA and will continue to guide us in the future.”
The shipyard extended its deepest condolences to Frans’ family and friends during this difficult time, noting how profoundly his absence will be felt: “He will be missed – but never forgotten.”
Through his life’s work, Frans Heesen did not simply build a shipyard, but left behind a lasting legacy that continues to shape the world of yachting.
