Iskandar Safa, owner of the Kiel shipyard German Naval Yards, has passed away.

Safa died on Monday surrounded by his family in the south of France, according to a social media post from the shipyard[ds_preview].

The shareholder with Lebanese roots had fought a serious illness to the very end in recent months, “now, unfortunately, death has defeated him”, the statement continued.

As the founder and driving force behind the German Naval Yards Group – which emerged from the surface shipbuilding operations of the former Howaldtswerke Deutsche Werft (HDW) and ADM Kiel and the former Lindenau shipyard and was founded by the Safa family’s Privinvest Group – Iskandar Safa “dedicated his life to his family and his company”. The organizational measures to ensure the business continuity of the group were reportedly implemented some time ago, the shipyard said, without providing further details.

Privinvest specializes in the design and construction of naval and commercial vessels as well as superyacht projects and has shipyard locations in Europe and the Gulf region. Since a reorganization, part of the group has been operating as CMN Naval with locations in Germany (German Naval Yards), France (CMN Cherbourg) and England (Isherwoods Newcastle).
