Rolls-Royce Power Systems has presented its balance sheet for 2025: At €5.72 billion, an increase of 19% compared to the previous year, the company closed the past year with a strong result.
Rolls-Royce Power Systems has continued its growth trajectory. Driven primarily by strong demand for solutions for powering large data centers and the dynamic defense business, the company increased its adjusted sales to €5.72 billion (£4.89 billion) in 2025 – an increase of 19% compared to the previous year. At the same time, the return on sales improved from 13.1% to 17.4%. Adjusted operating profit rose to € 995 million (2024: € 662 million). Order intake also developed positively, increasing by 21% to €7.14 billion (£6.11 billion), according to Rolls-Royce Power Systems.
Sales increased by 50
“Our strategy is working – and our results prove it. Over the past three years, we have increased sales by 50 %, more than doubled our return on sales and tripled our profit. We are continuing this momentum: we are growing in markets that are crucial for energy supply, safety and technological sovereignty and are investing a high three-digit million amount worldwide in new capacities, technologies and innovations – more than ever before,” says Jörg Stratmann, CEO of Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG.
Five initiatives are at the heart of the strategic focus: power generation, defense, marine, battery storage and service. According to the information provided, they determine where Rolls-Royce Power Systems will invest and expand its industrial and technological strengths in a targeted manner.
Future markets: data centers and defence
The data center business will grow significantly in 2025. Systems will become larger, more energy-intensive and indispensable for modern AI applications. Many data centers today are the size of several soccer pitches and require reliable energy supplies in the hundreds of megawatts range. Rolls-Royce supplies systems that stabilize grids, cushion peak loads and take over without interruption in an emergency. According to Rolls-Royce, a significant proportion of global internet traffic is already being safeguarded by mtu emergency power gensets.
The defense sector also continued to develop dynamically. Europe is expanding its security-related capacities, and Rolls-Royce Power Systems has been a partner to many armed forces for decades. In 2025, the company received a major order for more than 300 engines for the Leopard 2, followed by further orders for platforms such as the Boxer. The service business grew in parallel, as armed forces require one thing above all: high availability, reliability and industrial support over the entire life cycle.
Record investments in global capacities
Rolls-Royce Power Systems is investing a high three-digit million amount in the modernization and expansion of its plants worldwide. This is the company’s response to rising demand and is gearing production towards future volumes. Capacities are being expanded at the global locations, plants are being modernized and the industrial base is being strategically developed.
Plant 1 and Plant 2 in Friedrichshafen are being reorganized. A new plant is also being built, where the Series 4000 will also be assembled from 2028. Military production is also growing: additional test benches, new special machines and modernized logistics are creating capacities for significantly higher production volumes. Investments are also being made at other German locations, including Magdeburg and Ruhstorf.
In the USA, the company is expanding its site in Aiken (South Carolina) and increasing the production area in Mankato (Minnesota) by more than 23,000 square meters – where customers need additional capacity.
Milestones in 2025
According to Rolls-Royce Power Systems, the company achieved several technological breakthroughs in 2025. For example, the new generation of the mtu Series 4000 successfully completed 500 hours of test bench runs. In the marine segment, a powerful mtu marine engine ran exclusively on methanol – stable, reliable and under real-life conditions.
According to the company, it is also setting new standards in production. Core components were produced using 3D printing for the first time and then successfully tested in real engines. Hybrid drives for marine and rail applications expand the portfolio and enable quiet, low-emission operation.
In addition, around 700 new employees joined the company in 2025. Around 300 young people are currently completing an apprenticeship or dual study program at Rolls-Royce Power Systems. The company has invested more than four million euros in further training. Over 1000 positions are to be filled in the coming year.
