Leer-based shipping company Briese is entering into a strategic partnership with Peters & May, a project logistics company specializing in yacht transport.

The move is described as a response to customer demand for a regular and reliable monthly connection between Northern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean.

On the East Frisian shipping company’s side, Briese Chartering, which has a focus on shortsea shipping within the group, is part of the partnership.

Peters & May announced that the collaboration will enable it to secure at least one vessel on the southbound route every month from this summer, thereby expanding its range of services in the areas of yacht shipping, commercial sea transportation and global freight forwarding on this trade lane.

The partnership kicked off with the “BBC Bahrain”. “The first voyage was a great success with more than 13 yachts loaded in six ports, including both below deck and on deck cargo,” Peters & May announced.

Peters & May gain access to 11 Briese vessels

Günther Siemens, Managing Director of Briese Chartering, said: “With the option to use our L and B vessels, i.e. vessels equipped with at least 2 x 80-ton cranes, Peters & May will have access to 11 vessels, depending on their current position. I am confident that our companies can join forces to provide trusted solutions and customer satisfaction in the coming months”.

With access to eleven agreed vessels from the Briese Chartering fleet, the logistics provider aims to offer a reliable solution for this important market from July to October. The port stops include important ports in Northern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, such as Antwerp, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Southampton, Palma, Nice, Genoa, Lavrion, Marmaris, and Izmir.

Other ports such as Gibraltar, Malta, Split or Tivat, and others could be added to the rotation depending on demand, according to the statement.

This is not the first cooperation with the British for the Briese Group. Its sister company BBC Chartering also has a cooperation with Peters & May – a new agreement from the Mediterranean to the USA is due to come into force in September.

Simon Judson, CEO of Peters & May, said: “Briese Chartering adds new value to our customers by providing us with the tonnage and equipment we need and a fleet large enough to give us a reliable solution every time. Crucially, we can now confidently offer at least one vessel per month on this route, which will be in position on reliable dates with a confirmed rotation.”
