To save fuel, emissions and energy, a new superyacht being built by the Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard will be equipped with ABB solutions[ds_preview].

The shipyard has awarded ABB the contract to supply power and propulsion systems for the superyacht. The ship, which is over 100 meters long and is due to be handed over to the owner in 2025, will be one of the largest ever built at the A&R shipyard in Lemwerder. The ABB systems on board will include the Azipod propulsion system, the onboard DC grid, a 500 kWh energy storage system (ESS) and a power and energy management system (PEMS), whose combined and fully integrated functions will reduce emissions, noise and vibrations. The entire system can be integrated with remote diagnostic services and 24/7 support.

The increased efficiency achieved by the Onboard DC Grid™ and Azipod® drives is expected to increase the yacht’s range and help reduce fuel consumption and emissions. At the same time, the energy storage and management system will optimize power consumption and increase operational flexibility through peak shaving, according to ABB.
